Every successful business has a detailed, strategic and tactical marketing plan. Most struggling businesses don’t.  Successful business owners know their customers, from good to bad to average customers, create leads and covert them to potential customers. They know more about their competitors than their competitors know about themselves. They never stop gathering information that will help them succeed in the marketplace. They use this information to reach new customers, retain existing customers, and grow their overall customer base.

Although marketing and sales plans are often used interchangeably, both plans are not identical. Marketing plan is a blueprint for reaching your customer base and it is all about identifying your business’ target market and creating strategies for reaching those customers. Key questions to identify in a comprehensive marketing plan; who your main customers are, what they are looking for and if you are able to provide it. Inevitably, some marketing strategies have worked for you in the past; are you now able to grow these time-tested strategies to maximize your profits? Sales plans detail the strategies the business will use to sell products and services and increase revenue. Typically a sales plan will be organized around central goals for the business to reach its financial targets. As a base line, the goals you include in the sales plan should be specific, measurable and relevant to the needs of your customers. The sales plan will often form part of the larger marketing plan for your company so you’ll need to be sure to identify a target market, consider the buying attitudes and behaviors of the customers and consider the ins and outs of the advertising strategies you’ll use. The sales plan therefore often forms part of the larger marketing strategy.
